This was the promise made five years ago, which began life as the boldest and most ambitious of schemes. An idea not without risk, requiring substantial financial investment and an impressive learning curve. A plan which from the outset promised to create a brand new area of opportunity and enterprise for both the Saudi economy and its people.

Five years on, the United Sugar Company (USC) is truly established, operating to world class standards and relying for a large part upon Saudi nationals applying their newly acquired knowledge and expertise. Now, with the addition of new capacity, the plant will be capable of producing 805,000 tonnes of refined sugar per annum; practically double that at the outset in 1998.
